Meet Neil Barnes and Paul Daley, the two crafty Englishmen that comprise Leftfield. Their debut, Leftism, is amazingly diverse, ranging from chunky electro, complex textures of beats, to radio-friendly accessibility. The album s 1995 US release helped open up the states for techno-electronic music: The classic single Open Up, which features ex-Sex Pistol/PIL ranter John Lydon, was one of the first dance singles to push popular radio barriers with its high energy beats and b-line hooks. Original, with a guest vocal from Curve s moody crooner, Toni Halliday, delves deep into breakbeat territory with purging lyricism and rhythms. --Daniel Shumate

Would be great without the reggae vocals - If I wanted to hear reggae I ll listen to Bob Marly. Reggae doesn t belong in electronica. YUK! I ll stick with other big beat artists. The reggae singing in this CD completely ruin the big beat electronica.

Without question the best dance album of all time - I first heard Leftism in the summer of 1995. I will never forget the first time I listened to it and it is still the greatest dance album ever produced. Sublimely musical, beautifully crafted this album sounds even better when you play it on a decent sound system. There is so much going on in each track, so many sounds that work so well together that every time I listen to this album I hear something new.If you don t like electronic music you will love this - if you do like electronic music you will love this. Quite simply a masterpiece that changed the face of dance music and still sounds relevant today.Buy it - listen and weep!

Like every album, this one has it s pitfalls too - An excellent album, a great way to start a career. The album stays true to the electronica name whilst having the qualities of uniqueness. From high energy, blast your speakers drum beats, to catchy originals featured in soundtracks (namely Inspection), a highly recommended album. The only qualm I have with it would be 21st Century Poem, a 5 minute track with very little vocals and an inappropriate proportion of noise to instruments (real or fake).

a great, solid dance album - This is definetly a unique techno album. There is a mix of hard hitting beats coupled with some nice jazzy tunes. You have some slow, smooth tracks as well as quick pick-me-ups. I wouldn t consider it the best dance album of it s time, but it is very good nonetheless.

A great album that still sounds great in 2007 - I hadn t heard of this until just recently (via somebody s ListMania list), and I am very glad I took a chance on it. This is definitely one of the best electronica/techno/whatever albums I ve ever heard.Lots of great songs, lots of variety, very listenable. Very highly recommended.
